Weight Gain and Medicines: Prepare a Safe Medication Review
If weight changed after a new medicine, it is reasonable to ask whether there is a connection. Timing alone does not prove the cause. A useful review considers why the medicine was prescribed, what else changed and which options protect your health.

Bring a timeline, not a conclusion
Note when the medicine began, any prescribed changes and when you first noticed a weight or appetite change. Include sleep, activity, illness or life changes from the same period if relevant. A short record is more useful than arriving certain that one medicine must be responsible for every change.
Include products that are easy to overlook
Bring the names or packaging of prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and products bought online. Include medicines from another clinician or country. Do not remove an item from the list because it feels unrelated to weight; the professional reviewing it needs a complete picture to assess possible effects and interactions.

Ask about options without stopping treatment
Some medicines can contribute to weight gain, but stopping an important treatment can create other risks. Ask whether monitoring, additional support or an alternative is appropriate, and who should make that decision. Do not skip doses, reduce treatment or take a weight-loss product to offset it without individual advice.
Leave with responsibilities clearly assigned
If more than one clinician is involved, ask who will contact the original prescriber and how decisions are shared with your permission. Confirm the next review and which changes need earlier contact. This article cannot identify a medicine as the cause, determine an equivalent substitute or provide a stopping schedule.
Common questions
Should I stop a medicine to test the link?
No. Discuss suspected effects with the prescriber before changing treatment.
Does timing prove the medicine caused weight gain?
No. Other health and lifestyle factors may need assessment.
Who reviews medicines from different clinics?
Ask your usual clinician or pharmacist to help coordinate a complete medication review.
Sources and information limits
Sources support general medical principles, not the UAE booking policies or service availability. Confirm instructions and local arrangements with the care provider. The update date does not claim clinician review.

Questions before arranging an appointment?
Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
